Today I got the final results from my Nephrologist and everything is good. My heart is as good as it gets, my kidneys are both working and in good shape, I have no other health issues. Dr Booth has sent all the information to Guy's hospital in London. It is now up to them to ok his findings and decide when Glory is ready for the transplant and when I should be on my way over there. I am totally pumped and look forward to the trip. The surgery will I am sure not be fun, and the healing process is not a piece of cake, but within a few weeks I will be out and about a bit and after a month and a half I should be capable of walking across the UK in support of Organ donation. I invite all my friends to follow along as I go through this journey. I will not sugar coat the bad side and promise to be 100% honest on how I feel as I go through this process. I hope to have a place on the Discovery channel website to upload video and comments from the surgery, through the healing process, and on to the walk for life. When I have that information I will post the url so that you might follow the story there as well. Come follow me. When I am called I will start blogging through the lead up to the surgery and then through the healing process after. When I am there I invite all of you to share my blog and video's with all your friends who might someday face the same kind of prospect so that I might give them a realistic view of what they can expect. I can tell you this much. They don't just call you in and say hey, lets pop that old kidney out now ehhh... I have gone through about three months of testing. I have been pinched and probed more than I have in my whole life. I now know how healthy I am and how living a good clean lifestyle has served me well. If I was weak in any area the transplant would not happen. I am totally confident that in the end I will be as fit and capable of doing all that I love doing before the surgery, after the surgery. Whatever time I loose in the healing process is but a moment in my life that will free my sister Glory to start living her life again.
One of the issues I am sure comes into play with many people is the time it takes to go through the process of donation. I am hoping, once the donation is okayed that I might find someone to help me set up a crowd funding site to raise funds to help those who would donate an organ if they could afford the time off work. I envision setting this up with the Hospital so they could use it to help donors and families get through the costly process and get back to their lives. I would not be taking any funds from this as I am not in need and have been funded almost wholly by the Discovery Channel UK.
I would take any ideas or suggestions on how to make this work.
It is time to finish up for now. I wish each and every one of you a good night and
